Potable Water Lead Testing Requirements
The VDOE recently distributed memos to licensed child day programs, certified preschools and religiously exempt child day centers, sharing the requirement to develop and implement a plan to test potable water pursuant to ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia. The VDOE will begin determining compliance with this statute effective January 1, 2025. The memos can be found on the VDOE child care website: www.childcare.virginia.gov.

New: MAT Seizure Rescue Nasal Spray Online Course
The Medication Administration Training (MAT) Program recently announced the new MAT Seizure Rescue Nasal Spray (SRNS) online course. The training is available for free on the MAT Online Learning Center and will enable MAT-Certified providers to administer this emergency medication quickly and correctly in the event of an emergency seizure situation.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted 6/12/24 between the hours of 1:55pm through 2:50pm. There were a total of 10 children present, ranging in ages from 5 months to 3 years (25 points), with the Provider and 1 assistant. A total of 5 children?s files, 2 staff files, and 3 household member?s files were reviewed. The children were observed napping during the inspection. A complete inspection of the programming space, children and staff records, emergency drills, menu, attendance, and emergency procedures were completed today. No new staff have been hired since the last inspection. The provider advised there was no medication on site today. There was an abundant supply of age appropriate materials and toys and the home was clean and organized. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice.

Description: Based on record review, the provider did not ensure children's records contained documentation of the parent's annual review of the child's emergency contact information.

Evidence: Child #1's most recent review of emergency contact information was 5/30/22. Child #2's most recent review of emergency contact information was 3/1/23. Child #3's most recent review of emergency contact information was 8/4/21. Child #5's most recent review of emergency contact information was 12/17/21.

Based on record review, the provider did not obtain updated tuberculosis screenings for every adult household member at least every two years.

Description: Based on observation, the provider did not ensure that cots, when being used for sleeping or napping by children, had linens consisting of a top and bottom cover.
