Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements. The statutory requirement can be found online at https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title22.1/chapter14.1/section22.1-289.057/.

Resources are now available for providers on the "What's New" webpage on the ChildCareVA website at https://www.childcare.virginia.gov/providers/what-s-new.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring/renewal inspection was conducted today between 11:20am-12:15pm. There were 8 children present with the Provider and 1 assistant for a total of 17 points within the supervision guidelines. The children were observed taking a nap and playing with toys. Positive interactions were observed during this inspection. A complete inspection of the physical plant, children and caregiver records, evacuation drill log, attendance and emergency materials were observed during this inspection. Violations were found during today?s inspection and can be viewed on the Violation Notice. Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions, please e-mail me at shahana.green@doe.virginia.gov.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-240-A
Description: Based on observation, areas and furnishings of the family day home, inside and outside, were not maintained in a clean, safe, and operable condition.

Evidence:
1. The wooden closet door in the room used for nap time was broken in multiple places at the bottom, creating jagged and sharp wood.
2. There is white paint that is chipping on the wall by the air vent in the main family day home room.
3. There is a Spiderman ride-on toy in the backyard play area that is broken and has sharp plastic edges exposed.

Plan of Correction: I will change the door and cabinet and paint the walls. I will remove any broken toys outside.
