Technical Assistance:
Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements. The statutory requirement can be found online at https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title22.1/chapter14.1/section22.1-289.057/.

Resources are now available for providers on the "What's New" webpage on the ChildCareVA website at https://www.childcare.virginia.gov/providers/what-s-new.

Comments:
An unannounced Monitoring Inspection took place on May 15, 2024 between the hours of approximately 10:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. There were 6 classrooms observed with a total of 75 children with 10 staff within the supervision guidelines. The children were observed playing with manipulatives, engaging in circle time, coloring and other organized activities. Positive interaction between staff and children were observed. A complete inspection of the physical plant, fire drill log, and emergency procedures was conducted during this inspection. 5 staff records and 8 children's records were reviewed. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. If you have any questions, please e-mail me at tameika.king@doe.virginia.gov. Thank you for your cooperation during the inspection.

Please complete the ?plan of correction? and ?date to be corrected? for each violation cited on the violation notice and returned it to me within 5 business days from today. You will need to specify how the deficient practice will be or has been corrected. Just writing the word ?corrected? is not acceptable. Your plan of correction must contain: 1) steps to correct the noncompliance with the standard(s), 2) measures to prevent the noncompliance from occurring again; and 3) person(s) responsible for implementing each step and/or monitoring any preventive measure(s).
