Technical Assistance:
Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements. Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from 10:00am-12:20pm. There were 61 children (infants-5yrs.) directly supervised by 13 staff. The physical plant, staff records, children?s records, medications, evacuation drills, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. Children were observed participating in group play, reading books, playing outside, water play and infant feeding routines. Diapering and hand-washing procedures were also observed. There was an ample supply of materials for the children. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice.

Description: Based on observation, child record was not treated confidentially.

Evidence:

1. There was an accident report in a black box sitting on the counter in the 2's classroom with child information.

Plan of Correction: We will remind teachers in training on Thursday to have parents sign forms and bring back to me.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-270-A
Description: Based on observation, areas and equipment were not maintained in a clean and safe method.

Evidence:
1. Sofa and chair in preschool class room were ripped.
2. Green ride on plastic see saw was cracked at the base
3. Gate on playground was not latching during inspection.

Plan of Correction: I will remove them during the inspection. I will have maintenance fix today and send you a picture.

Description: Based on observation, hazardous substances were not kept in a locked place that prevents access by children.

Evidence:
There was a bottle of hand sanitizer on the counter in the 2's classroom.

Plan of Correction: We will remind in meeting to put in the closet and lock.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-550-P
Description: Based on record review, required information was not documented on written record for children's injuries.

Evidence:
1. 1 of 8 child accident reports did not contain Action to prevent reoccurrence.

Plan of Correction: We will make sure updated forms are used.
