Technical Assistance:
We discussed the requirements for first aid/CPR and diapering procedures. The risk assessments for violations were provided.

Comments:
Thank you for your assistance during today's unannounced renewal inspection conducted from 10:35 AM to 3:00 PM. Today, there were ten children, ages two through four years (20 points), with two caregivers. Thirteen children were enrolled and one child was expected after school. I viewed program activities, staffing, supervision, interactions with children, equipment, posted information, emergency supplies and drill records, menu/nutrition, lunch, five records for children, diapering procedures, three records for residents/caregivers, caregiver training, caregiver qualifications, pet records, indoor and outdoor areas. The children have enjoyed a variety of seasonal activities and learned about pumpkins, acorns and owls. Also, the children have regularly painted and had creative art opportunities which were displayed. Reggio Emilia practices have been implemented. Today, the children enjoyed choices for activities at different interest areas. They had active play time outside before lunch.

Issuance of a regular license will be recommended. Let me know if you have any questions. 540/430-9259

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-140-B-3
Description: Based on a review of three records for caregivers and residents, and an interview with the provider, the provider failed to renew the certification in first aid and CPR in time to maintain current certification. Evidence: The first aid and CPR certification that expired on October 12, 2019 for caregiver 1 was not renewed until November 9, 2019. The provider indicated that a course was not sought until October and an October class was not available.

Plan of Correction: In the future, the provider will begin searching for a course weeks in advance of the due date to renew the first aid and CPR certification on time.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-690-E
Description: Based on observation of the diaper changing procedure before lunch, and an interview with a caregiver, a used diaper was disposed of without the use of the foot operated pedal while opening the container. Evidence: A caregiver used hands to open the lid and push the diaper into a flap opening, having contact with the surface of the container.

Plan of Correction: The caregiver immediately started using the foot-pedal to open the lid and drop the used diapers and wipes into the container without hand contact with the disposal container.
