Technical Assistance:
Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements. The statutory requirement can be found online at https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title22.1/chapter14.1/section22.1-289.057/.

Comments:
An unannounced Monitoring Inspection was conducted today. There were a total of 8 children with 2 staff onsite. 2 household members were present during the inspection. The children were free playing and coloring on the lower level of the home. Two infants were observed in bouncy seats. Walk thru of the entire lower level programming space was conducted. Crib room and room where cots are stored was also observed. No medication needs at this time. All required postings were verified. Discussed separating the younger children from the older children to allow for age and stage appropriate program activities. A total of 5 children's files, the provider's file, emergency drill logs and required certifications were reviewed. Two violations found today. A corrective action was provided for each. This inspection occurred between 10:30am and 12pm. Thank you for your cooperation today.
Please email me at: lisa.hudson@doe.virginia.gov with any questions.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-60-B
Description: Based on child record review, one child record was incomplete.
Evidence:
Child #1's file contained only 1 emergency contact.

Plan of Correction: I will obtain a second emergency contact from this parent.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-690-D
Description: Based on observation of the diapering area, the diapering surface was no longer non-absorbent.
Evidence:
The diapering surface had terry cloth material around the plastic mat area which can not be properly cleaned and sanitized.

Plan of Correction: We will replace this diaper surface with a non-absorbent one and hang a shelf to store diapers.
