Technical Assistance:
Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements. Comments:
An unannounced, on-site monitoring inspection was conducted on June 10, 2024. The on-site inspection began at 11:30 a.m. and ended at 2:20 p.m. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas listed above. There were 95 children present and 16 staff. The inspector reviewed 10 children?s records and 10 staff records on-site. This inspection included document review, tour of the facility, interviews, and observations.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law, and violations are documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-140-B
Description: Physicals shall be conducted within six months prior to attendance for children aged 19 months through24 months. A 2 year old enrolled on 5/13/2024, and had a physical from 1/4/2023 on file.

Plan of Correction: Staff will request an updated physical.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-60-A
Description: Repeat violation. Each center shall keep a separate record for each child enrolled that contains all of the required information. Five of 10 children records reviewed did not contain the name and phone number of employment for each parent/guardian.

Plan of Correction: Staff are obtaining the missing information.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-550-G
Description: Repeat violation. Documentation shall be maintained of emergency evacuation drills monthly. There was no documentation of an evacuation drill in February 2024 or May 2024.

Plan of Correction: Evacuation drills will be conducted monthly.
