Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on June 11, 2024. The inspectors were on site from approximately 9:35 am until 11:45 am. There were six children present with two caregivers supervising for a value of 21 points. The provider arrived at approximately 9:45 am. Children were observed finishing breakfast, watching a children?s show, building with blocks, and working on a craft project. Children also identified animals and sounds. Caregivers interacted in a positive manner with children.
The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of six child records and four caregiver records were reviewed. A full house walk through was also conducted.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.
If you have any questions regarding this inspection, please contact the licensing inspector.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-240-A
Description: Based on observation, the provider did not ensure areas and furnishing of the family day home inside and outside, were maintained in a clean, safe, and operable condition.

Evidence:
The miniblinds, in the kitchen area where children are in care, were broken. The broken slat created a loop that could pose a risk of strangulation. The broken slat also had a rough edge that could snag the skin of a child in care.

Plan of Correction: Per the provider: I will replace the blind and move it up so they can not pull it down.
