22.1 BACKGROUND CHECKS, CODE, CARBON MONOXIDE

Comments:
An unannounced focused monitoring inspection was conducted on 06/14/2023. There were 12 non-resident children and 1 resident child, ages 5 months-3 years, totaling 32 points, one substitute caregiver, and one assistant caregiver present during the inspection. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, personnel, physical equipment and environment, care of children, preventing the spread of disease, and nutrition. A total of 5 children?s records, 3 caregiver records and 2 household member records were reviewed. The children were observed during free choice activities and in music and movement activities. The inspector arrived for the inspection at 9:45 am and departed at 10:55 am.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the provider.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-750-B
Description: Based on observations, the provider failed to ensure that topical skin products such as sunscreen, diaper ointment and lotion, oral teething medicine, and insect repellent are used, they shall be inaccessible to children.

Evidence:
1. There was a tube of Orajel Baby teething medicine on the table beside of the couch that was accessible to the children.
2. There was a tube of diaper ointment in a storage cube of the diaper changing table that was accessible to the children.

Plan of Correction: The diaper ointment and teething medicine was put up during the inspection.
