Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements.

An unannounced Monitoring inspection was conducted today. A total of 20 children with 3 staff was onsite. The children were sitting in a circle at the beginning of the inspection and took turns washing hands and accessing their lunches. Walk thru of the primary classroom, observation of both bathrooms and the kitchen area was made. An incubator was onsite with newly hatched chicks.A complete inspection of the physical plant, children and staff records, fire drill log, and emergency procedures was conducted during this inspection. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. Standard #: 22.1-289-036-B-4 Description: Based on staff record review, one background check clearance was not obtained.
Evidence:
Staff #1 was hired on 01/12/2024 and has lived out of the state of Virginia in the past 5 years. . An out of state Central Registry clearance has not been obtained.Plan of Correction: A Central Registry search request will be sent and once the results are received they will be forwarded to the Licensing Inspector for review.
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-270-A Description: Based on observation of the center, 2 areas of the center was not maintained in a safe and operable condition.
Evidence:
The drawer laminate located in the first bathroom in the primary classroom was peeling. The threshold molding leading into the bathroom was no longer adhered to the flooring and posed a tripping hazard.Plan of Correction: Both these areas of the center will be repaired.
