Potable Water Lead Testing Requirements
The VDOE recently distributed memos to licensed child day programs, certified preschools and religiously exempt child day centers, sharing the requirement to develop and implement a plan to test potable water pursuant to ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia. The VDOE will begin determining compliance with this statute effective January 1, 2025. The memos can be found on the VDOE child care website: www.childcare.virginia.gov.

New: MAT Seizure Rescue Nasal Spray Online Course
The Medication Administration Training (MAT) Program recently announced the new MAT Seizure Rescue Nasal Spray (SRNS) online course. The training is available for free on the MAT Online Learning Center and will enable MAT-Certified providers to administer this emergency medication quickly and correctly in the event of an emergency seizure situation.

Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted 7/1/2024 between the hours of 10:35am through 12:15pm. There were a total of 6 children present, ranging in age from 6 months to 20 months (23 points) with the Provider and 1 assistant. A total of 4 children?s files, 2 staff files, and 2 household member?s files were reviewed. The children were observed watching television and engaging in free play activities throughout the inspection. Positive interactions between caregivers and children were observed during this inspection. A complete inspection of the programming space, children and staff records, emergency drills, attendance, and emergency procedures were completed today. No new staff have been hired since the last inspection. The provider advised there was no medication on site today. There was an adequate supply of age appropriate materials and toys. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice.

Description: REPEAT VIOLATION

Based on record review, the provider did not ensure that before the child's first day of attendance that parents are provided all required policies in writing.

Evidence: Child #1 (Start Date: 2/20/2024), Child #2 (Start Date: 6/24/2024), Child #3 (Start Date: 3/12/2024), and Child #4 (Start Date: 1/29/2022) did not have documentation that parents were provided the policy for administration of medications, provisions of the emergency preparedness plan, or the liability insurance declaration.

Description: Based on observation, the provider did not ensure toddlers spend no more than 30 minutes of consecutive time during waking hours, with the exception of mealtimes, confined in a high chair.

Evidence: Child #3 (Age 20 months) was confined in a high chair from approximately 10:37am until 11:49am watching a show on television. The child was not having a meal during this timeframe.
