Technical Assistance:
Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements. Comments:
An unannounced on-site renewal inspection was conducted on 5/1/24 . The inspection began at 12:05 and ended at 1:35 pm. Three caregivers were on site with 9 daycare children. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas listed above, The Inspector reviewed 7 children's files and five caregiver/household member's files. The inspection included document review, tour of the home, interviews and observations. Information gathered during the inspection determined non compliance with applicable standards or law, and violations are documented on the violation notice issued to the program,

Violations:
Standard #: 22.1-289.035-B-4
Description: Any state in which a household member has resided in the preceding five years, requires a out of state central registry finding within 30 days of residing in the family day home.
Household member A came to reside in the home over 60 days ago and to date, there was no out of state central registry background checks on file from Massachusetts.

Description: Shelter in place procedures shall be practiced a minimum of twice per year.

Household member A has been functioning as a caregiver and was caring for a child during the inspection. There was no orientation training provided to household member/caregiver A who has been a caregiver for over 60 days.

Description: Areas inside and outside shall be maintained in a clean, safe, and operable condition. A caregiver disposed of a soiled diaper by opening the outside door and tossing the diaper in the outside trashcan near the door. The staff did not was their hands prior to touching the doorknob therefore the doorknob was not maintained in a clean manner.
