Technical Assistance:
Technical Assistance was discussed with the provider regarding the requirements for a new assistant the provider may be hiring. Also discussed the requirements for shelter-in-place drills and documentation.

Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements.

The statutory requirement can be found online at https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title22.1/chapter14.1/section22.1-289.057/.

Resources are now available for providers on the "What's New" webpage on the ChildCareVA website at https://www.childcare.virginia.gov/providers/what-s-new.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 6/5/24 from 10:40am to 11:40am with the provider. There were four children in care, ranging in age from 18-months to two-years-old, for a total of 10 points. Children were observed watching an educational video while the provider prepared lunch, then eating lunch and washing hands, and then having free play. The provider?s record was reviewed for updates. All children?s records were reviewed at the last inspection, so updates were reviewed during this inspection. One medication and authorization form were reviewed and the provider has current certification in Medication Administration Training (MAT). Lunch served was chicken nuggets, french fries, macaroni and cheese, mixed vegetables, apples, and cantaloupe. The emergency drill log, attendance, and menu were also reviewed. If you have questions regarding this inspection, please contact the Licensing Inspector, Laura Brindle, at laura.brindle@doe.virginia.gov or 540-905-2062.

Please complete the "Plan of Correction" and "Date to be Corrected" areas on the Violation Notice for each violation cited and return to me by close of business on 6/14/24. Plans of correction should include steps to correct the noncompliance with the standard, and measures to prevent the noncompliance from occurring again.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-830-C
Description: Based on review of documentation and interview, the provider did not ensure that documentation was maintained of emergency evacuation drills. Evidence: The drill log did not contain documentation of drills being practiced in December 2023, January 2024, or April 2024. The provider reported that drills were practiced, but not documented.

Plan of Correction: Emergency Evacuation Drill was documented for the missing dates.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-140-B-3
Description: Based on review of documentation and interview, the provider did not maintain current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Evidence: The most recent CPR certification on record for the provider was dated 3/7/22 and expired on 3/7/24.

Plan of Correction: Applied for the CPR/First Aid in class training scheduled 6/16/24.
