Technical Assistance:
Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements. The statutory requirement can be found online at

Comments:
An unannounced focus inspection was conducted on 6/10/2024 from 11:45 am to 12:28 pm There were 43 children supervised by 9 direct care staff. The physical plant, 5 children?s medication records, medications, menu, and allergy list were inspected. Children were observed engaging freely and napping. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice. Please submit your plan of correction within 5 business days for it to be included on the website. Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-P
Description: Based on staff interview and record review, the center did not ensure when an authorization for medication expires, the parent shall be notified that the medication needs to be picked up within 14 days or the parent must renew the authorization. Medications that are not picked up by the parent within 14 days will be disposed of by the center by either dissolving the medication down the sink or flushing it down the toilet.

Evidence: On June 10, 2024, Child #3's medication authorization form expired on 02/28/2024 and the emergency medication was still being stored at the center.
