Technical Assistance:
Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements. The statutory requirement can be found online at https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title22.1/chapter14.1/section22.1-289.057/.

Resources are now available for providers on the "What's New" webpage on the ChildCareVA website at https://www.childcare.virginia.gov/providers/what-s-new.

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 05/28/2024 from 12:05pm to 2:35pm with the Director. There were 99 children ages 3 months to age 9 years old supervised by 14 staff. The physical plant, outdoor playground area, programming, attendance, menus, 5 staff records, 5 children?s records, 6 medications with corresponding authorization records, 3 allergy care plans, emergency drills, 4 injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were reviewed. Children were observed participating in watching a movie, free play activities, and napping. There was an adequate number of staff present with current certification in Medication Administration Training (MAT), CPR and First Aid, and Daily Health Observation (DHO) training. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice.

Please complete the columns for "Plan of Correction" and "Date to be Corrected" for each violation cited on the Violation Notice, and then return a signed and dated copy of each page to me via email by 5pm on 6/4/24. Please email me at angela.dudek@doe.virginia.gov with any questions.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-450-A
Description: Based on observation, the center did not ensure that cribs, cots, mats and beds used by children other than infants during designated rest periods should have linens consisting of a top cover and a bottom cover or a one-piece covering which is open on three edges.

Evidence:
1)In the Pre-K classroom (ages 4-5 years old), there were 9 children sleeping on mats without a bottom cover or without a one-piece covering open on 3 edges.
2)In the Preschool classroom (ages 2-3 years old), there was 1 child sleeping on a mat without a bottom cover or without a one-piece covering open on 3 edges.

Plan of Correction: Linen order placed on 5/29/24 for additional linens and in abundance for future compliance. Top and bottom linens utilized on 5/30/24 until delivery received.
