22.1 BACKGROUND CHECKS CODE; CARBON MONOXIDE

Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted from 10:00 am - 12:15 pm. There were 100 children in care being supervised by 17 staff. The children were observed participating in circle-time activities and play outdoors. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of ten child records and eight staff records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-60-A-8
Description: Based on review of ten children's records and interviews it was determined that not all children with diagnosed food allergies had documentation of a written care plan on file as required. Evidence: The current allergy list provided disclosed Child A was listed with a food allergy. Staff stated the parents had not provided a written care plan for Child A?s documented allergy.

Plan of Correction: Administration will request a written allergy care plan from the parents of child A.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-B
Description: Based on observation, hazardous substances such as cleaning materials, were not kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: Several cleaning agents were observed in an unlocked closet located in the preschool classroom.

Plan of Correction: The closet was locked during the inspection.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-520-C
Description: Based on observation, the facility did not ensure that diaper ointment or cream was inaccessible to children. Evidence: In the toddler classroom, there were several diaper creams in a low unlocked cabinet below the changing table accessible to children.

Plan of Correction: The diaper ointments were locked during the inspection.
